Review: Keane-Perfect Symmetry

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on October 23, 2008 by dcyouknow10

Summary: Keane’s latest LP, with it’s slick 80s-esque, upbeat sound, mixed with slower moving ballads, make it one of my personal favorites of 2008.

The Lowdown: Keane is back with a brand new album, titled Perfect Symmetry. Not being too familiar with their previous work, I had no idea what to expect when I started listening to this album for the first time. Previously, the only song I had ever heard from this band was Is it Any Wonder?, and I thought that was a solid song with a unique sound.

Perfect Symmetry’s opening track, Spiralling, opens with a very 80s-esque bit, and gives an instant view that the band was going for a more retro style with their new work. As the album progresses, you’ll continue to hear more of these sounds. With many other bands trying this technique with their new albums, one would think that it would get old after a while–fortunately, that is not the case for Keane, who was able to pull it off in near-perfect fashion.

You’ll also hear a lot more of the slower-paced ballads that I personally enjoy. The band does an outstanding job of providing a good mix within.

The lyrics are well written here, as well. I think the tracks Spiralling, You Haven’t Told Me Anything, and Perfect Symmetry are my favorites throughout, though a good majority of the songs are very interestingly written.

If you are at all familiar with Keane and their previous albums, you will most certainly not be disappointed with Perfect Symmetry. Even if you aren’t familiar with the band, you should be able to enjoy the band’s outstanding blend of retro, stylish, and just flat out fun.

The Score: I gave Perfect Symmetry an “Amazing!” score of 93%. Keane made an amazing album with a great mix of the retro, outstanding lyrics, and epic sounds throughout. Definitely give this album a listen. I don’t think you’ll regret it!

Introducing the W.T.F.! Review System

Posted in Uncategorized on October 23, 2008 by dcyouknow10

Now that WTF is finally up and running, I am going to begin reviewing movies, music, games, and websites on the blog. I have opted to use a unique review system, based on a percentage score. Here is a basic rundown of the new system:

0-50%: Awful. If anything is going to be as bad as the “Awful” category, I probably feel like I’ve wasted your time in reading the review, and wasted my time in both making my observations on the product and writing the review.

60-70%: “Baaaad.” While not as bad as “Awful,” this category shows that there are aspects of the product that I may like, but the overall product isn’t that great.

70-80%: “Meh…” Mediocre at best, products in this category aren’t hated by myself, but aren’t loved by myself, either.

80-90%: “Great!” Products in this category have me amazed, though I did find some flaws within it.

90-99%: “Amazing!”. Very minimal flaws, and a top contender for my annual awards ceremony.

100%: “WTF Platinum Award.” This is the best of the best. Anything that receives this award is instantly nominated for the respective category at the annual awards, as well as a nomination for the Hall of Fame Award.

A reviews database will be maintained, so that easy access to scores will be available to all readers.

My first review on the blog, of Keane’s new Perfect Symmetry album, should be up by the end of the night. Be sure to check back to see it!

Posted in In The News, Political Crap, Special Features with tags , , , , , on October 23, 2008 by dcyouknow10

This week’s Poll of the Week is in regards to the upcoming election, which is only a matter of 12 days!  W.T.F.! wants to know, who do you plan on voting for?

Comments are accepted as well, but PLEASE be appropriate.  The rules of many blogs and forums do apply–no flaming, no bashing, just give your good, clean opinion!

YouTube Hits: Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin…wow.  Without saying that I’m a full on liberal (because I’m not), I have to say that she really makes me want to NOT vote Republican in this year’s election, only because it scares me as to what would happen if, for some reason, she ever became the leader of this country.

It’s very clear that she does not have the right speaking skills to lead the nation–her interview tactics are absolutely horrible, and she really doesn’t ever make too much sense.  That is why I make her the topic of my first ever edition of “YouTube Hits,” a feature dedicated to finding the best of the best on YouTube.  Here I have a few videos, where you can see, very clearly, just why I feel the way I do about her.

This video highlights Palin’s “Greatest Hits,” ranging from her comments about seeing Russia from Alaska and her foreign policy, to not even being able to cite newspapers and magazines that she regularly reads to gather opinions and form her own.  This video really just serves as a documentary as to why she is not ready to lead the nation.

This video, along with the next video, are clips from Sarah Palin’s Saturday Night Live performance on October 18, 2008.

Transformers Ride Coming to Universal Parks

Posted in Entertainment, Film, Theme Parks with tags , , , on October 21, 2008 by dcyouknow10

Universal Studios announced yesterday that they are going to build a $100-million attraction at both Universal Studios Hollywood, and the brand new Universal Studios Singapore, based on the hit 2007 blockbuster hit Transformers. Details about the new attraction are scarce at this time, but, here’s what we do know about it:

-Right now, there are no plans to open it at any of the other Universal Studios parks, including Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Japan.

-The ride will open first in Universal Studios Singapore when the park opens in 2011.

-The ride will replace Backdraft and the Special Effects Stages at Universal Studios Hollywood, which are currently still open.

-The ride will use 3D-HD media, and is rumored to be an “upgrade” to the ride system that brought The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man to life at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Japan.

-Dreamworks will be the creative force behind the new attraction.

Honestly, this ride sounds absolutely amazing.  It’s a shame its not going to be built in the two most popular of the Universal Parks and Resorts, at least for now.  With Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2009, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opening in 2010 at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, perhaps the Orlando resort has their hands too full for this project at the moment, but, we can only hope that it’ll eventually be built next to The Simpsons Ride and Men in Black Alien Attack (that location is prime for another attraction…it’s the only undeveloped area left in the entire park).

Welcome to W.T.F.!

Posted in Uncategorized on October 21, 2008 by dcyouknow10

Well, it took me long enough, but, I guess that’s what happens when you hit a very long weekend.  WELCOME to Web Tunes Film, also known as W.T.F.!  My name is DC, and I’ll be running this twisted operation.

A little bit about myself–I’m a 21-year-old college student living in the awesome town of Orlando, FL.  I’m big into movies, games, theme parks, technology, interweb, and just about anything related to the nerd world.  I previously ran another blog, That One Blog, that I only closed down last year, after a three year run.  W.T.F. is going to carry on some of the traditions and styles of that blog, though, now that I’ve grown up a little bit more, my writing style should hopefully be a little more mature.

Despite the fact that W.T.F. is “Web, Tunes, Film,” you may occasionally see posts and features relating to other topics.  For example, in the next few weeks, I may have features on the election.  I may also ramble about theme parks for any prolonged period of time (if I can make it my goal to show off every coaster that I’ve been working on in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, I will…honestly).  In fact, my first real post will be about a new ride that is going to open at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore in a few years.  I may also throw in some other random things at any time…it’s just my style.

And I guess that’s about it.  Check back, because I have a few things planned out for today!
